State’s Attorney Foxx Honors Unsung Heroes in the Fight For Justice

In honor of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, Cook County State’s Attorney Kimberly Foxx presented Victim Service Awards to five individuals who have shown tremendous resiliency and commitment to helping others as they journey towards justice and healing.

• Cynthia Saldana: for her unshakeable, inspiring commitment to healing and empowering victims of domestic violence. After experiencing domestic violence herself as a child, this inspired her to help domestic violence victims. In January 2016, Cynthia lost her husband to gun violence. Even through own pain, she continues to raise her four children and work full time as an advocate.
• Commander Darryl Hope, Lead Detective Dolton Police Department: for exemplifying the values and skills most needed in the service of justice. Commander Hope is a demanding investigator and is committed to caring for victims by often going above and beyond the call of duty. In a recent serial robbery investigation, it was his persistence that led to the apprehension of three offenders.
• Annette Johnson: for her courageous commitment to building a safer Chicago. In 2011 Annette’s son Antonio was killed and she was injured by a drug dealer after he shot them in retaliation for Annette’s efforts to end drug sales in her neighborhood. Annette’s powerful testimony at the murder trial as she faced her son’s killer not only resulted in a conviction, but showed her enormous strength and courage.
• Andrew Holmes: for his lifelong dedication to helping victims of crime and building strong communities. For decades, Andrew has worked across Chicago to alleviate the suffering of individuals and communities ravaged by violence. He is a fixture on the front lines, walking alongside those whose lives are most impacted by violence.
• Pamela Cook: for her leadership and commitment to justice. On September 27, 2006, Pam’s husband, METRA Police Officer Tom Cook was killed in the line of duty, leaving behind two children. The prosecution of the murder case was a long and painstaking process, but Pam never wavered and was a model of strength, courage, and dedication. Pam and her family remain active in the law enforcement community to help others.
