State’s Attorney Foxx Announces New Leadership: Chief of Staff and Policy
Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx has appointed Alyson Miller as Chief of Staff and Policy, a new hybrid role that combines overseeing the work of the nation’s second-largest prosecutors office while driving a progressive public policy agenda in part of Foxx’s commitment to creating a safer, stronger Cook County.
Miller will assume this newly-created position later this month, when Foxx’s current Chief of Staff, Jennifer Ballard Croft, leaves the office for a role in the private sector. Miller has been with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office (CCSAO) as Deputy Chief of Staff since February 2017 and has acted as interim Director of Policy since August 2020.
Foxx said: “Over the past four years Alyson’s leadership, assiduous work ethic and strategic mind have been a great asset to our office and the people of Cook County. In order to advance the work I envision us accomplishing these next four years I need someone, like Alyson, who understands both the theory and the actuality of how to run our office and policy initiatives. The integration of these functions into one role is new territory for us and I’m thrilled to have Alyson take this on.”
Foxx announced at her swearing-in late last year a top priority of this term is to enact meaningful criminal justice reforms while making the community safer through difference-making policy and legislative work.
“Alyson will be at the helm of a strong, capable policy team comprised of experienced strategists, attorneys and social justice advocates,” Foxx said. “As I begin a second term coming off a year filled with violence, death, increased poverty and continued disinvestment in Black and Brown communities I want to ensure the progressive policy agenda that this administration sets forth is executed effectively and efficiently. Alyson will get it done.”
A graduate of Yale University and Loyola University School of Law, Miller brings years of experience in the finance industry, law, education and childcare advocacy to her new role. Prior to joining the CCSAO in 2016, Miller spent 12 years in the private sector working as a consultant to early-stage startups specializing in supply chain and third-party logistics management, working almost seven years in a highly regulated finance industry as an Associate at Chapman and Cutler LLP, and four years in Tokyo, Japan with the multinational DHL Exel Supply Chain leading a merger and acquisition and subsequent integration team a first of its kind transaction.
Foxx will be making further announcements around her specific policy agenda in the coming months, including initiatives to tackle gun violence, providing a renewed commitment to working closely with police departments on effective policies, utilizing community partners as advisors and more.
