Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office Welcomes Nearly 100 New Assistant State’s Attorneys in 2021
CHICAGO – Today, Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx welcomed 29 new Assistant State’s Attorneys (ASAs) to the growing class of 2021, a group totaling 94 new ASAs. The newly sworn-in ASAs were joined by family and friends at the Chicago – Kent School of Law and heard remarks from the Honorable Arthur F. Hill, Jr., and members of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office (CCSAO) Executive Team.
“I strive to create an office culture that encourages innovation and forward-thinking as we continue focusing on public safety and equitable criminal justice reform,” said State’s Attorney Foxx. “I’m excited and inspired by this new class of attorneys as they are the future of this work.”
The Class of 2021 is made up of graduates from Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Tulane University Law School, DePaul University School of Law, Chicago-Kent College of Law, University of Illinois Chicago School of Law, Loyola University School of Law, Michigan State University College of Law, Howard University School of Law, Northern Illinois University College of Law, Wake Forest University School of Law, Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, and University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.
These new ASAs overcame the hardships of COVID-19 while finishing law school as well as studying for and passing the Illinois Bar Exam. Many of these attorneys were forced to put taking the bar on hold as well as getting sworn in by the Illinois Supreme Court because of the pandemic.
The CCSAO is the second-largest prosecutor's office in the country and includes over 700 ASAs working across the county. The new ASAs begin working immediately in the Criminal, Civil, and Special Prosecution Bureaus.
