Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx Honors Recipients of 2024 C.F. Stradford Awards
CHICAGO – Embracing the spirit of Black History Month, Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx proudly recognized two exceptional individuals and one organization for their outstanding commitment to public service and their relentless efforts to uplift communities throughout Cook County, at the office’s 34th Annual C.F. Stradford Awards.
Earlier this week, at a ceremony in Bronzeville, State’s Attorney Foxx celebrated the remarkable contributions of Justice Carl A. Walker, Michael A. Wilder, and Live Free Illinois to the vibrant tapestry of Cook County’s diverse communities.
"The 2024 C.F. Stradford honorees epitomize the resilience and unwavering commitment to justice that define our community's spirit," said State's Attorney Foxx. "In their tireless pursuit of equity and empowerment, Justice Carl A. Walker, Michael A. Wilder, and Live Free Illinois exemplify the transformative power of advocacy and community leadership. Justice Carl A. Walker was recognized as a distinguished Appellate Court Justice for the Illinois Appellate Court First District. With a career spanning both criminal and civil litigation, Justice Walker has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to fairness and equity within the legal system. Beyond the courtroom, he is deeply engaged in community service, advocating for education and mentorship opportunities for youth.
Michael A. Wilder, Chair of Littler’s Board of Directors and a core member of the firm’s Complex Litigation and Jury Trial Practice Group, was honored for his exceptional advocacy in employment law. With a track record of success in high-stakes cases, Michael champions diversity and inclusion initiatives, embodying the values of leadership and excellence.
Live Free Illinois was recognized for its groundbreaking action in mobilizing faith communities to address public safety, gun violence, and other criminal justice issues. Through grassroots organizing and community empowerment, Live Free Illinois amplifies the voices of marginalized communities and fosters a culture of accountability, integrity, and grassroots leadership within faith-based organizations.
State’s Attorney Foxx annually bestows the C.F. Stradford Award upon prominent figures from Cook County’s African American communities for their exemplary leadership, community engagement, and commitment to social justice. The ceremony is held in conjunction with the national observance of Black History Month, honoring individuals and organizations who embody the principles of justice and equality.
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office (CCSAO) is the nation’s second-largest prosecutor’s office and is led by Cook County’s first Black woman State’s Attorney, Kim Foxx. Foxx brings her vision to this office to fairly administer justice in the pursuit of thriving, healthy, and safe communities for every person who steps foot in Cook County, no matter their race, income, or zip code.
