Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx Announces Felony Charges for Two Chicago Police Officers
Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx has filed felony charges in connection with an on-duty, early-morning, shooting involving two Chicago Police officers on July 22, 2022, near 18th Street & Morgan on the city’s south side.
Sergeant Christopher Liakopoulos, age 43, and Officer Ruben Reynoso, age 42, both assigned to the Major Accidents Unit of the Chicago Police Department are each charged with 3 felony offenses: Aggravated Battery with a Firearm (Class X), Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm (Class 1) and Official Misconduct (Class 3). These felony offenses are punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
The charges are the result of an investigation by the CCSAO’s Law Enforcement Accountability Division in conjunction with the Chicago Police Department’s Bureau of Internal Affairs. Both officers have been relieved of their police powers.
The victim in this case is a 23-year-old male, who was unarmed during the incident and sustained injuries because of the shooting. The victim has since recovered and cooperated with authorities during the investigation.
On September 16, 2022, a Cook County Judge set bail at $25,000 for each defendant and continued the case to October 13, 2022 at the Leighton Criminal Courts Building in Chicago.
