The Cook County State's Attorney's Office Community Justice Centers (CJCs) were established with a core belief that prosecutors bear the responsibility not only to handle cases but also to address public safety concerns, prevent crime, and enhance the well-being of communities. Operating from local offices, the Community Justice Centers foster collaboration and partnerships with various entities, including the police, businesses, faith-based organizations, elected officials, schools, government agencies, social service organizations, and community groups. Their overarching objective is achieved through three main approaches: prevention, problem-solving, and prosecution.
In addition to their prosecutorial duties, Assistant State's Attorneys assigned to the Cook County CJCs actively engage in crime prevention by conducting seminars, workshops, and speaking engagements to inform and educate citizens about crime-related matters. Moreover, they actively participate in resolving individual, neighborhood, or community issues that may or may not involve criminal activities but significantly impact the overall quality of life.
Each CJC is equipped with a dedicated Community Liaison whose role entails networking, coordinating prevention programs, and engaging in community outreach initiatives. The CJCs operate collaboratively, sharing resources and maintaining close cooperation with steering committees comprised of law enforcement and other community leaders. Through this integrated approach, the CJCs strive to create safer and more thriving communities in Cook County.
